Amaryllis belladonna is a bulb of the Amaryllidaceae family native to South Africa. Foliage appears in autumn until late spring, when it dries out. Flowers appear without foliage in late summer, in August or September. Inflorescences are 75 cm high. All parts of the plant are toxic. It needs draining soil.
