Synonyms: Pitcairnia mirabilis (basionyme), Pitcairnia mirabilis var. tucumana, Puya mirabilis var. tucumana Family: Bromeliaceae Origin: Argentina, Bolivia Common name: puya Hardiness: -6°C IUCN Red List: no Puya mirabilis is a rosette-forming plant that grows on rocks. The leaves are narrow, around 50 cm long and edged with spines. The inflorescence reaches a metre or more in height, with pale green flowers. Rosettes that have flowered die and are replaced by others. This specimen (pictured) comes from Bolivia, department of Tarija, province of Aniceto Arce, municipality of Cañas at 2200 m altitude.
