Description
Protea ‘Venus’ is a 2-3-meter-high shrub obtained by hybridization between Protea aristata (mother) and Protea repens (father) in 1993 by CSM Michell in South Africa. It is currently flowering in early summer. We planted this plant in 2012 near the boulder, not knowing if it was hardy. Now that we know its parentage, we can estimate its hardiness: Protea aristata grows between 750 and 2000 meters altitude, while Protea repens grows between the seashore and 1500 meters altitude. This hybrid should therefore be fairly hardy, perhaps around -6°C.
