Botanical name: Ochagavia carnea (Bière) LB Smith & Looser Family: Bromeliaceae Origin: Chile Common name: Ochagavia Hardiness: -7°C to -10°C for short periods, according to some experience. Ochagavia carnea is a Chilean epiphytic plant of the pineapple family (Bromeliaceae). It grows slowly, forming a clump one or two meters wide within a few years. Foliage is evergreen. The leaves are edged with prickles. In our garden, it grows on the ground or in a rock hollow. It blooms in summer in Brittany: the flowers are pink. It needs well-drained, stony soil or a rock crevice. In pots, water in summer if you want to see it bloom quickly.
