Botanical name: Ferocactus schwarzii G.E. Lindsay Family: Cactaceae Origin: Mexico (State of Sinaloa) Common name: cactus, barrel cactus Hardiness: -4°C completely dry in winter. Ferocactus schwarzii is a barrel cactus (family Cactaceae) from the Mexican state of Sinaloa. It grows to a height of 80 cm and a diameter of 50 cm, but flowers from a diameter of 12 cm. The plant has 4-5 spines when young, but only one or two when older, which are yellow in color. When older, it looks like an Echinocactus, but the flowers and fruit classify it as a Ferocactus. We have 3 plants planted in the greenhouse in 2013.
