It can grow up to 5 m high, but here it reaches a maximum height of 2-3 m. The foliage is evergreen. It is either a sclerophyllous or humid tropical forest plant. Leaves are thin and long (1-2 cm wide, 30-50 cm long). Flowering takes place from June to August and is followed by purple to black fruits.
