Description
Canarina canariensis is a climbing plant that only grows in winter when it rains, and rests in summer when it dries out. It grows at altitudes of between 300 and 1,000 meters in laurel forests or on their edges. During the resting period, it lives in the form of a tuber. The tuber can withstand -5°C, but not the foliage. We grow it in greenhouses, where it blooms from autumn through winter. Outdoors, in our zone 10, we grow it in undergrowth and it doesn’t flower until early spring. In any case, its foliage disappears in late spring. The downward-facing flowers form large orange bells.
