Description
Doryanthes palmeri is a succulent herbaceous bulbous plant that grows in a rosette of leaves up to 3 m high. The plant flowers when the rosette has accumulated enough energy to do so. The rosette must therefore be fairly wide. After flowering, the plant divides to form other small rosettes. In our region, the inflorescence begins to emerge in autumn, flowering in June of the following year and reaching a great length (up to 5 meters long). The flowers are red and visited by pollinators. We have three specimens, all three growing in the low-gel zone near or on the rock. Each specimen has flowered at least once. Doryanthes palmeri is threatened in its habitat.
