Description
Summary: Crinum moorei ‘Album’ is a bulb of the Amaryllidaceae family native to South Africa.
Botanical name: Crinum moorei ‘Album’ Family: Amaryllidaceae Origin: South Africa South African Red List: VU Common name: Natal Lily Hardiness: -5°C for short periods. I’ve also seen -15°C but I have my doubts given the plant’s geographical origins. Crinum moorei ‘Album’ is a South African bulb in the Amaryllidaceae family. In South Africa, the white form grows on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, in Zululand (Mtunzini, Ngoye, Ngome) and also in the Oribi Gorge on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. The bulb is large, up to 20 cm in diameter, and grows just below the surface of the soil. The leaves are long and flat, up to 1 m long. Flowering takes place in late summer here (August-September). This bulb is on South Africa’s Red list because its population has declined by 20%.
